Average. Utterly unremarkable… until her best friend shoots her on her 16th birthday and a stranger brings her from death’s doorstep with an infusion of his own DNA. Then everything gets weird. She heals impossibly fast. She senses the thoughts of others. She sees places and horrifying creatures that couldn’t possibly exist, and her new friend Tyler is convinced she’s destined to save the world from their invasion. Can she trust him? Can she trust herself? How’s she supposed to stop inter-dimensional invaders when she can barely deal with high school? Ready or not, here they come.
If I’d known I was going to die on my sixteenth birthday, I probably would’ve spent a little time on my makeup that morning. As it was, I lay in the field, cold, and all I could think was that I hadn’t even bothered to run a brush through my hair before I left. I mean, at the very least, I could’ve worn earrings. It started to rain, softly at first, and I felt my teeth chattering. No, not felt. Heard. I heard something else, too. Jared sobbing. Loudly. It was funny—I’d known him all my life, and I’d never heard him cry before. Would he be crying so desperately if he hadn’t been the one who shot me?
My Review I really thought the book was very strange but it was a fun and interesting book. Rachel I thought was an interesting character and what a change of life she had after she was shot by her friend. I also enjoyed her new friend Tyler and thought he was very interesting as well. I thought they were cute together. I really thought it's interesting how Rachel got the powers and why they were needed. The bad things that Tyler, Rachel, and company had to fight where very interesting. There are betrayals that take place in the book. I loved that the book didn't end in a cliffhanger but leaves room for other books to come. I asked to take part in the book tour and my opinions are my own. I would definitely recommend this book and I would read more book's by this author. AUTHOR INFO: When she's not donning her secret identity and saving the world, Thiessen keeps busy writing her next novel, reading something beautiful, teaching high school English, drinking coffee, cycling, and hanging out with her family - husband, kiddies, and miniature schnauzer.
